The pilot for Once Upon a Time only aired last week and had 12,93 million US viewers, what makes it the #1 non-NFL-driven debut in five years for ABC (source 1). The series is an American fairy tale drama series, created by Lost executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis. What happens when fairy tales and the modern world collide?
On her birthday, 28-year-old bail bonds collector Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) finds the son she gave up for adoption ten years ago, Henry (Jared Gilmore), standing in front of her door. On the road trip back to his hometown of Storybrooke, Maine he shows Emma his book and tells her that fairy tales are real. Henry believes that Emma is the daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), and the only one who was protected from the Evil Queen's (Lana Parrilla) curse. This curse has send every character to the real world and the characters are frozen in time with no memories of their former selves. Emma refuses to believe Henry's story, but soon finds out that Storybrooke really is different from other towns.
I'm hooked to Once Upon a Time. The show is pretty epic; I really love the way they brought the characters we thought to know into such a story. You kind of get sucked into the series. Mary Margaret Blanchard (Snow White) is the most loveable woman in the whole world, Regina (the Evil Queen) really needs a slap in the face, and Henry is just too adorable; his hope gives you hope.
There is a bad thing, though. The parallel stories are quite annoying and a bit confusing. But I guess that's more because I didn't expected a series about fairy tales to be confusing. I think that's a good description for Once Upon a Time; nothing is what you expect it to be.
Edit (December 29, 2011): After a few weeks, I'm still hooked to this show. The parallel stories are actually quite good and I take back what I said before. This show makes me laugh, makes me angry, makes me cry (and not just a bit); it's so damn good! The show is now on its hiatus and I can't wait for it to come back.
